Why would a country of just 80 million people be creating the capacity to manufacture over 1 billion mRNA vaccine doses per year — especially since for the moment there is almost no market for any mRNA vaccines?
The actual bulk ‘manufacturing’ operations as I understand it, would normally be outsourced via third party contractors. This is what I learned from a ‘whistleblower’ employee of a local company in Frankfurt area who handled the C-19 shots. Many of the workers were then ‘released’ when the demand dropped. So I wonder where the investment is going here? I am sure BioNTech does not want to own large manufacturing facilities with hardware. This can too easily become a liability. Is this perhaps for a hi-tech facility which just produces ‘magic m-RNA’ nano-lipid concentrates which can be tailored to multiple uses and distributed (exported) to global contract packers?

But BioNTech also benefits from the same federal funding program, and BioNTech is keeping the same sort of capacity "warm" - as they say in the EU pandemic preparedness industry.
