It is strictly impossible that Twitter has not had contact with EU officials about censoring Covid-19 dissent. And it is strictly impossible that Twitter is not continuing to have contact with EU officials about censoring online content and speech more generally. So, why have we heard nothing about it in the “Twitter Files”? Because, unlike what Elon Musk calls “US government censorship”, EU censorship really is government censorship. So long as Twitter wants to stay on the EU market, Elon Musk is legally required to comply on pain of sanction.
The EU has Elon Musk hostage, and a hostage is not going to speak badly about the hostage-takers.
For the details, see my latest article for Brownstone here.
Let's suppose Elon Musk were to do something courageous like telling the EU he's satisfied with Twitter doing business everywhere in the world EXCEPT the EU, stating he believes their restrictions on free speech are unacceptable. (Unlikely, I admit.)
I'd like to see how that would play out among individual Twitter users in the EU, including EU tyrants themselves, whose own use of Twitter is so convenient for spreading self-serving announcements and other propaganda.
Is there any possibility a public outcry and protest could has a positive effect on the rolling back of these outrageous EU enforcement and punitive measures?
The entire point of Musk buying Twitter is to keep people busy in a tightly monitored, clearly designated sandbox, and with Musk being a true believer in the project of turning the entire world into Singapore he'll be ruling with an iron fist to uphold the illusion that Twitter is the manifestation of democratic will, not elections.
